About the game

Mega Moolah launched in 2006 as Microgaming's answer to network progressive jackpots. The base game is a deliberately simple five-reel, 25-payline slot with an African safari theme — lions, elephants, giraffes, zebras and antelopes filling out the reels. The point isn't the base game. The point is the jackpot wheel.

At any point during play — base game or free spins, regardless of bet size or symbols on the reels — the wheel can trigger randomly. When it does, the reels are replaced by a 20-segment coloured wheel. The wheel spins, and the segment it lands on determines which of the four jackpot tiers pays out: white for Mini (~C$10), yellow for Minor (~C$100), red for Major (~C$10K), or gold for Mega — which seeds at C$1 million after every hit and has reached C$20+ million on multiple occasions.

The base RTP of 88.12% is intentionally low. Most slots return 95–97% of stakes to players over time; Mega Moolah returns ~88% in the base game and routes the remaining ~8–9% into the progressive jackpot pool. If you play long enough to hit a Mega, you're very likely up. If you don't, the base-game returns are below average. This is the deal Mega Moolah offers.

Network and variants

Mega Moolah is the centrepiece of a network of titles that all feed into the same four-tier jackpot pool. A spin on Absolootly Mad, Atlantean Treasures, Goddess, Lightning Mahjong, Juicy Joker, Wheel of Wishes, Fortunium Gold, Immortal Romance Mega Moolah or Mega Moolah Isis counts as a spin on the network — and the Mega hit can come from any of them. The original Mega Moolah remains the most-played title in the family.

Record jackpots

Mega Moolah held the Guinness World Record for the largest online slot jackpot at €18.9M, won at Grand Mondial in 2018. Six other Mega hits have crossed C$10M. The Mega tier resets to C$1M after each win and typically grows back into the multi-millions within weeks.

Frequently asked questions

What is the RTP of Mega Moolah?
Mega Moolah has a base-game RTP of 88.12%, which is intentionally lower than a typical slot. The "missing" RTP isn't gone — it's diverted into the four-tier progressive jackpot pool. Players collectively recoup it through jackpot hits, though any individual session is statistically less likely to break even than on a non-progressive slot.
How is the jackpot triggered?
Mega Moolah's jackpot wheel is triggered randomly — any spin in the base game or free spins round can trigger it, regardless of bet size or symbols on the reels. When triggered, the wheel appears with four coloured segments (white = Mini, yellow = Minor, red = Major, gold = Mega). The wheel spins automatically and lands on one of the four tiers.
What is the largest Mega Moolah jackpot ever paid out?
The record Mega Moolah Mega jackpot to date is €18.9 million, won in September 2018 by a player at Grand Mondial. The Mega tier seeds at C$1 million after each hit and routinely climbs above C$10 million before being won.
Who makes Mega Moolah?
Mega Moolah was developed by Microgaming and launched in 2006. Following Microgaming's 2022 spin-off of its game studios, the title is now distributed by Games Global and maintained by Triple Edge Studios. The original is unchanged; new variants are produced by various Games Global studios.
What Mega Moolah variants are there?
Beyond the original, the Mega Moolah network has expanded to include Absolootly Mad, Goddess, Atlantean Treasures, Lightning Mahjong, Juicy Joker, Wheel of Wishes, Fortunium Gold, Immortal Romance Mega Moolah and Mega Moolah Isis. All share the same four-tier jackpot pool — a hit on any variant can pay the network-wide Mega.
Is this slot legal to play in Ontario?
Yes — provided you play at an iGaming Ontario / AGCO-licensed operator. The casinos listed above are Ontario-licensed. Playing on unregulated international sites from within Ontario is not legal and offers no consumer protections.
