Progressive Jackpot Slot
Microgaming / Games Global · 2006
The slot that rewrote the record books. Mega Moolah is the four-tier progressive jackpot that made Microgaming a household name and has paid out more multi-million-dollar wins than any other online slot.
Mega Moolah launched in 2006 as Microgaming's answer to network progressive jackpots. The base game is a deliberately simple five-reel, 25-payline slot with an African safari theme — lions, elephants, giraffes, zebras and antelopes filling out the reels. The point isn't the base game. The point is the jackpot wheel.
At any point during play — base game or free spins, regardless of bet size or symbols on the reels — the wheel can trigger randomly. When it does, the reels are replaced by a 20-segment coloured wheel. The wheel spins, and the segment it lands on determines which of the four jackpot tiers pays out: white for Mini (~C$10), yellow for Minor (~C$100), red for Major (~C$10K), or gold for Mega — which seeds at C$1 million after every hit and has reached C$20+ million on multiple occasions.
The base RTP of 88.12% is intentionally low. Most slots return 95–97% of stakes to players over time; Mega Moolah returns ~88% in the base game and routes the remaining ~8–9% into the progressive jackpot pool. If you play long enough to hit a Mega, you're very likely up. If you don't, the base-game returns are below average. This is the deal Mega Moolah offers.
Mega Moolah is the centrepiece of a network of titles that all feed into the same four-tier jackpot pool. A spin on Absolootly Mad, Atlantean Treasures, Goddess, Lightning Mahjong, Juicy Joker, Wheel of Wishes, Fortunium Gold, Immortal Romance Mega Moolah or Mega Moolah Isis counts as a spin on the network — and the Mega hit can come from any of them. The original Mega Moolah remains the most-played title in the family.
Mega Moolah held the Guinness World Record for the largest online slot jackpot at €18.9M, won at Grand Mondial in 2018. Six other Mega hits have crossed C$10M. The Mega tier resets to C$1M after each win and typically grows back into the multi-millions within weeks.
